By: Shamus Hill Following up on the release of the official music video for "Hometown Hotshot" is Chase Murphy, with yet another visual, but this time for "Corporate". Tapping in both Happy Belated and Daymian Mejia to bring this visual to life, this release is certainly one of the more notable in recent memory. Coming off of his recent project, Pauly Rev: The Mixtape, "Corporate" fuses the best aspects of this Brookline native's discography into a singular song. Balancing his raps with his singing, switching flows with expert precision throughout, Chase Murphy puts his capabilities on full-display each trip to the studio. It's no wonder that he has nearly 30K monthly listeners on Spotify alone, as this promising artist from Massachusetts routinely crafts delectable music that wraps itself around the listener's subconscious. Another well-executed release, Chase Murphy shows that he won't be going anywhere, anytime soon. Watch the official music video for "Corporate" below:

By: Shamus Hill Making his first appearance across the airwaves of Mass Music Radio today is 2LATE, a singer/producer who's currently a Philosophy student over at Northeastern University. His newest song, "Ecstasy" which features Boston's WES., serves as the first single off of his upcoming project Up Till 2. Equipped with an intrinsic ability to sing, 2LATE's high level of talent becomes apparent less than a minute into this release. Despite sounding incredibly poised throughout "Ecstasy", 2LATE only started to make music of his own in 2019. He'd been sharpening his skills with respect to production for years up until that point in time, however once he began to grow comfortable with his singing skills, his discography truly began to take shape. It's safe to say he's heading down the right path, and with Up Till 2 right around the corner, the staff here at Mass Music Radio recommends that our readers take heed of this new talent from Boston. By: Shamus Hill Just last week, Brew Lewis, Aphro Sensei, and Boogie Da God of Stay Saved Records made an appearance on our blog with the release of the official music video for "BLUNT CRUISE". Today, Tony Bodega, Aphro Sensei, and Carlos Perez (4oto_roles) lead the charge with yet another marijuana-themed single titled "SCOTTI IN THE BLUNT". An incredibly relaxed, serene offering, "SCOTTI IN THE BLUNT" is spearheaded by the natural coolness that comes attached to Tony Bodega's artistry. His discography is lined with songs that replicate this feeling, rapping in a manner that compares to light waves touching the shoreline. Aphro Sensei, who's verse on "BLUNT CRUISE" was a true standout, gives listeners yet another reason to get behind him as an artist. He's someone who's really been stepping into great form as 2021 continues, generating some new life behind the team over at Stay Saved Records. While many tend to hone in on the Hip-Hop, Drill, and Alternative genres of music that artists in Massachusetts are crafting, the blossoming R&B side of the local music scene, at times, gets overlooked. Helping to turn heads in the right direction today is Boston native Tamera King, who makes her long-awaited return following the release of "Me Over U". Since she first began making music of her own at the age of 15, Tamera has grown into a truly exceptional artist. "Me Over U" serves as the latest reinforcement of this statement, which features production from none other than Clark D – a Rapper/Producer from Hyde Park. This release is ridiculously catchy, maintaining a revitalizing, uplifting theme throughout. Tamera King utilizes "Me Over U" to speak on the healthiness of putting oneself first in life. Often times, we center our focus around those we care about before ourselves, which can lead to both destructive behaviors and unruly relationships. As "Me Over U" unfolds, Tamera speaks on the happiness and fulfillment that come paired with this process. Showcasing not just her ability to sing, but her prowess with respect to songwriting as well, Tamera King is most definitely a high-level talent. Though this may be her first release since 2019, I'm certain that this won't be our last time hearing from Tamera King in the near future. By: Shamus Hill Brockton has swiftly become one of the more reputable locations within Massachusetts as a direct result of the music that has been exiting the city. Leading the charge has been the large cast of creatives that make up Van Buren Records. Since the release of Bad For Press earlier this year, their name is one that has quickly grown in popularity amongst fans of music from both inside and outside the state of Massachusetts. Today, the Brockton natives make yet another appearance on Mass Music Radio following the release of the official music video for "RELAX". Shot on the dormant Brockton Fair Grounds, this Simon Morrison-directed visual is one that brilliantly showcases the interconnectedness that is prevalent not just within VB, but within VB and the City of Brockton itself. Since meeting with the mayor towards the tail-end of 2020 and even receiving an award for their creative endeavors, the guys at Van Buren have really done an amazing job at putting on for their city. Like Saint Lyor said earlier on – "No I'm not from Boston, ET I'm from Brockton!". There's no better exemplification of this than what is provided here on this release. Featured on this song are Saint Lyor, Luke Bar$, Jiles, and Lord Felix. With each of these individuals putting their best foot forward to provide wondrous anecdotes of their respective artistries, "RELAX" is certainly one of the most notable additions to their catalog of music up through this point in time. If you haven't heard Bad For Press as of yet, then you already know what you should be doing today! Watch the official music video for "RELAX" below:

Kleo, who was recently featured on our Artist Spotlight Series, makes his return to the airwaves of Mass Music Radio today following the release of the official music video for "Horse". Both shot and edited by ProSwervez of Club INDGO, the visual for "Horse" may be categorized as being both dark and gloomy in nature – meeting Kleo right in the middle as he relays melancholy, abstract raps. His way of orchestrating his verses is very notable, as this Boston based artist is one who's discography has quickly filled with a potent selection of music. To learn more about Kleo and 1000 Year Grief, then be sure to check out Mass Music Radio's Artist Spotlight featuring Kleo, which is linked at the bottom of this page. It's been an incredible week for local music in Massachusetts, as artists from across the state have been collaborating on what's ultimately become the best music to exit the state in recent memory. Connis, who hails from Cambridge, was one of the featured artists on soap.wav's "Orange Line Freestyle" which debuted this past week. Today, he recruits some more Bay State natives into his catalog of music with the official visual for "Salt" featuring Kadeem and Versus Beats. Recruiting Simon Morrison as Director and Daymian Mejia as cinematographer, this music video is one that takes on an incredibly cinematic properties throughout. Not only does this ring true regarding the visual aspects of this release, but the same may be said about the sonics as well. Vasant Sundaresan, who utilizes the moniker Versus Beats, teamed up with Connis, Stoic Beats, and Timmy Holiday to provide a brilliant, hypnotic instrumental to work with, helping to pull out the best forms of artistry from within Connis and Kadeem during the process. Balancing between both singing and rapping, Connis' first two verses on this release come paired with this wonderful haziness that becomes reminiscent of a Los Angeles sunset. As the first two-thirds of "Salt" unravel, the viewer is met with clips that feature Connis' closest loved ones, ranging from his family, girlfriend, and friends. Putting who he is at the forefront of this release, viewers ultimately grow to become vastly connected with the Cambridge native upon this song's ending. For those familiar with Connis though, this will not be shocking – especially given the amount of vulnerability he displayed on his 2019 album Conn(is). Just when things seem as though they're going to wind down on "Salt", Connis makes way for a monumental close at the hands of both Kadeem and Versus Beats. Combining Kadeem's otherworldly capability to rap with a ground-shaking sax solo from Versus Beats, the final minute of "Salt" is one that takes on a truly heavenly aurora. Kadeem drops off one of the more polished verses to exit Massachusetts in a long time, blessing Connis' latest release along the way. There's really not a singular element of this release that is lackluster in even the slightest bit. Definitely give it a watch if you're in need of something new for your rotation of music. In yesterday's article about Dylan Reese, I mentioned how the cities within the western side of Massachusetts have been rising up with respect to crafting excellent music. Today, Springfield rappers Deziner Drugz and Jxylen take the stage following the release of the official music video for their collaboration titled "SPRVLN". Featured on his recent Purple Dawn 2 project, "SPRVLN" provides a two-minute display of gut-punching raps. Utilizing Rick Ross-esque, braggadocious lines about the finer things in life, Deziner Drugz paints depthful imagery with his pen. Following up on this is Jxylen, who's well-carved, precise lyricism makes for a hit every single trip. The two of these MC's paired atop this production at the hands of Kencussion has made for a truly groundbreaking release. If you're enjoying what you hear, then definitely be sure to stream Purple Dawn 2! Watch the official music video for "SPRVLN" below:

Johan Lenox is one of the most exceptional artists to come out of Massachusetts in quite some time. Featured on our Artist Spotlight Series a few months ago, fans of Mass Music Radio were able to listen to him tell the story about how he's fusing the classical music of his youth with contemporary music. Quite literally breathing new life into this statement, Johan Lenox makes another appearance on our blog today following the release of his Chamber Johan EP. Though all of the songs off of this project are past components of his discography, Johan removes everything from these prior releases — leaving just the string sections underneath the vocals. In my interview with Johan, he mentioned how he loves to utilize the voices of his collaborators in a way that mimics the functionality of an instrument. Chamber Johan ultimately becomes a prime example of what he means by this. Though these songs have been re-worked in a fashion that is incredibly unique to Johan Lenox's artistry, each of them ultimately become outstanding listens. He's incredibly set on his mission towards combining his love for both classical and modern music, and Chamber Johan certainly achieves this goal with grace. If you're interested in learning more about Johan Lenox, then feel free to listen to our Artist Spotlight with the Massachusetts native by clicking here.
