By: Shamus Hill Jack Karowak is the perfect example of someone who lets the music do the talking. Finally releasing some new music since 2020's The Myth of the Mechanical Universe, "Free" serves as the latest high-quality release from this Plymouth native. This self-observing song deals with the question of "Am I on the right path in life?". There's no question that Jack has been working ridiculously hard towards the curation of a brilliant discography, however, it seems as though the doors haven't been opening up for him as naturally as he would like. Unsure of whether or not his music will truly ever open these doors for him, Karowak states that he's "staring at the blank abyss, dancing on a sinking ship". Though he's attracted many supporters from across the world, he's not going to rest until he achieves the feeling of satisfaction that he's currently in absence of. Following a lengthy stay in Los Angeles this past month, Jack Karowak has been busy working alongside Brad Feeney, David Walker, and many creatives from the Massachusetts area who also found themselves out west at the same time as Jack. Despite feeling unsure of the direction he's moving in at times, this hasn't deterred his work ethic whatsoever. He's routinely added hit after hit to his catalog of music, and I'm truly excited to hear what this future star has been working on.

Making her way from South Jakarta, to Melbourne, and, finally, to your headphones, is none other than Matahara - a talented artist who's setting out to make her mark by delivering a radiant catalog of music to listeners from every corner of the globe. Since the debut of her first body of work, Triple Alliteration, earlier this year, Matahara has been amassing an increasing number of supporters that have grown to love her sound. Spending the first 15 years of her life being raised in Jakarta, Matahara faced a flood of new emotions following her transplant to Australia. The songs off of Triple Alliteration quite literally serve as journal entries that reflect her state of mind when dealing with feelings such as anxiety, stress, and homesickness. Describing Jakarta as being "beautifully chaotic; busy, loud, warm, and full of surprises", Matahara seeks to reflect these elements of her hometown through her discography. She takes influences from Alternative Pop, Dream Pop, R&B, and Dance Music, with her her music ultimately sounding and feeling like a refreshing breath of fresh air. It's always a treat when an artist manages to insert their real life experience into their music, and even better when they make it sound as delectable as it does here. Fresh off of the release of his recent project Pauly Rev: The Mixtape, Chase Murphy is back to turning heads with the official music video for "Hometown Hotshot". Assuredly resting as a "Massachusetts Anthem", this track is one that puts the capabilities of Chase Murphy with respect to rapping and singing on full display. Throughout this visual's less than two minutes in length, both Chase and his hometown friends take a scenic cruise in a drop top throughout the city they know and love the most. The Golden Boy Music Group member tasked Happy Belated with the direction of this visual, and even recruited talented videographers such as Athel Rogers, Colin Pagnoni, and Nick Gould into the mix to create one of Chase's most potent video releases up through this point in his career. For those of you on the East Coast, and specifically the Boston area, today's weather has been truly exceptional. It's one of those days that almost requires a walk through the park, a stroll down the beach, or simply a cruise with the windows down. Helping set the soundtrack for this type of day is Boston's Dungeon Jane, who's February release of Spectrum might not have been on everyone's radar, but is more than deserving of the attention of the masses. I touched upon how I tend to cover releases shortly after their debut, however as I mentioned earlier this week, sometimes you have to give credit where credit is due, which is exactly how I am feeling about Spectrum. A beautiful debut album by Dungeon Jane, this eight-song project is one that displays a breathtaking talent. There's a vast depth to her short-lengthed discography, as Spectrum manages to embody a wide variety of stylistic elements ranging from R&B to House Music to everything in between. Some of my standouts from this project were "Nowhere", "Do It", and "Ode To You". In my opinion, I strongly believe as though these three tracks in particular do an incredible job at showcasing Dungeon Jane's multi-faceted talents. Regardless of this though, Spectrum is an incredibly well-executed body of work that fans of Massachusetts music should really be getting behind. Watch the official music video for "Ode To You" below: By: Shamus Hill West London's Rosa Cecilia is gearing up for the release of her upcoming EP, as the second single off of this project, "Passers-By", has officially been released. Combining elements from neo-soul, jazz, and R&B music, Rosa Cecilia's catalog of music is already of an incredibly high standard, though it is comprised of solely two singles up through this point in time. "Passers-By" is a wonderfully arranged single - one that touches upon the stigmas that come associated with Interracial and LGBTQ+ couples in the public realm. Rosa Cecilia has frequently used her social media platform to speak on issues revolving around race, gender, and sexuality, and has never once shyed away from putting her beliefs on full-display. The crossover that her message makes into her discography is something that helps make her music so profound, and is also something that floods me with excitement with respect to the release of her debut body of work. "Paradise" was actually the first single to be released off of this album, also serving as a perfect example of Rosa Cecilia's capabilities. The work she does truly stands for something larger than herself, and I am really looking forward to seeing what this young british artist is going to accomplish with time. By: Shamus Hill This edition of Mass Music Radio's Artist Spotlight Series highlights Roxbury native, Kleo, who just recently dropped a new album titled '1000 Year Grief'. I spoke with him about what his perception of the music scene in Massachusetts is, what it's like to create alongside one's friends, and some good ol' fashioned wrestling! Tune into Mass Music Radio to listen to more local artists! Listen to our interview with Kleo below: By: Shamus Hill The iLL Addicts are a Boston based collective of artists that have routinely delivered some of the most unique music that the East Coast has to offer. Both Pro Swervez and Juelz of the Addicts were recently featured on Mass Music Radio's blog with their single, 'Swishahouse", which ultimately has become a song that has routinely been in rotation on our radio stream since it dropped. Today, the group is back with two brand new singles titled "Café Bustelo" and "Crossroads". Both offerings provide this hazy, sunshine filled aurora that conveys an incredibly relaxed feeling. On "Café Bustelo", Pro Swervez reconstructs "Kisah Seorang Pramuria" by Indonesian artist Nunung Wardiman, applying stylistic elements that are uniquely that of the iLL Addicts. While Pro Swervez takes more of a melodic approach, both Dochee and Juelz exchange phenomenal verses. Additionally, this track comes paired with a brilliant lyric video, that was shot and directed by CLUB INDGO, and perfectly translates the overarching sentiment that this track exudes. "Crossroads" is certainly of a much more tranquil demeanor than "Café Bustelo", as both Pro Swervez and Juelz provide dreamy landscapes that are of a very comforting nature. Trading introspective lines that reflect on the choices we make, this track is a stellar addition to the catalog of music from the iLL Addicts. Watch the lyric video for "Café Bustelo" below: By: Shamus Hill Seemingly every single day now, there's a new artist from Massachusetts that jumps onto my radar out of nowhere. While scrolling through YouTube, I came across Ce Certified's collaboration alongside Bluehunnitz and BigBodyBenz, and after listening for approximately five seconds, I was completely blown away. While it isn't often that I will write about a release several months after it has dropped, this is exactly what it is taking place today, with Ce Certified's illustrious single "No Passes". Equipped with three well-executed verses from Ce Certified, Bluehunnitz, and BigBodyBenz, this offering serves as a brilliant exposé with respect to each of their individual styles. While the instrumental is one that will certainly draw in listeners, it's each of these rappers who make this track what it is. It's safe to say that the reputation of our area is in safe hands, as all three of these artists are on the cusp of developing some really formidable discographies. Watch the official music video for "No Passes" below: By: Shamus Hill Brockton's Van Buren Records has amassed an intense following since their April release of Bad For Press. Easily their most well-received project to-date, the guys over at VB have had themselves a busy year up through this point in time. Shortly following the project's release, this group of creatives from Brockton took a visit out to Los Angeles, where they shot several lyric videos at the SNS (Sneakers N Stuff) Headquarters. Releasing three lyric videos over the course of the last five days, Van Buren really wants to ensure that their listeners fully comprehend the points that they are trying to make on Bad For Press. Watch the lyric videos for "BRAINDEAD", "MEDIC", and "RELAX" below: By: Shamus Hill Rebel Mafia Global's Brandon James returns to the pages of Mass Music Radio's blog today following the release of the official music video for his single "Best Of Me". As I had mentioned in the article for "Blood Brothers" by both Brandon James and Big Super, Brandon has continued to develop his own discography whilst still runnings things over at FNS Films. Serving as the first single off of his upcoming EP titled No Favorites, "Best Of Me" comes equipped with naturally flowing raps, and a powerful instrumental at the hands of VDon. Though braggadocio in its nature, this release manages to include an element of tranquility, as Brandon James explores his style of delivery throughout this single's three minutes of length.
