By: Shamus Hill May 20th is already chalked up to be an amazing day, as rising Boston artist, Caev, will deliver his first EP in more than three years - BrokeAndTalented. Today, he appears on Mass Music Radio's blog with the project's debut single "Fuck How They Feel". Accompanied by an official music video at the hands of Jake Yasi (JY Filmz), Caev is gearing up to make an impact with this upcoming tape. Already releasing a long list of singles and videos throughout this year, Caev has really done an exceptional job with respect to curating his catalog. Each forthcoming addition is brilliant, as the Boston native routinely showcases his multi-faceted artistry. The combination of his vocal presence, lyrical prowess, and true authenticity make for a brilliant concoction, and this is something that I truly believe will carry Caev to great heights as his career continues to blossom and unfold. Tasked with the production of this song were the SuperSmashBroz - a duo of brothers from Boston that have truly served as ambassadors for the local music scene. Not only were they apart of the Boston Red Sox's Nike City Connect Campaign last month, but they've diligently amassed a tremendous production catalog that has given the pair global recognition. I'm thrilled to see that they teamed up with Caev for this release, as they're some of the best creatives that the city has to offer right now. Massachusetts is truly an incredible place to be with respect to the music scene, and I for one am thrilled that we have Caev and the SuperSmashBroz to push all of us forward in the right direction. By: Shamus Hill Starting today, the Mass Music Radio blog will be featuring artists from outside of Massachusetts! Kicking things off is none other than Shawn Mathews, who's amassed quite a hefty following through his fusions of Indie, Pop, and R&B genres to concoct some truly sensational music. Generating more than 200K monthly listeners on Spotify alone at the current moment in time, Shawn has been successfully connecting with his listeners on a large scale. The Pennsylvania native possesses an overwhelmingly natural presence on each of his forthcoming releases, with "Honest" exemplifying this wondrously. The combination of lighthearted guitar riffs, funky synth bass lines, and top-notch vocals makes for the perfect soundtrack for a sunny day - something that Massachusetts residents will be experiencing in full as the week continues. In short, Shawn Mathews has a delectable discography that is certainly worthy of your attention. I strongly anticipate that his music will be played on commercial radio stations throughout the world as he continues to develop, so why not get hip now before the rest of the world does? Quincy DJ, Mic Lamb, recently stopped by the Mass Music Radio Station and absolutely crushed his set! To hear more than an hour of uninterrupted music, then be sure to watch the official visual below. By: Shamus Hill Some of you may know Gabe Gill from his work alongside Honeyfitz under the moniker Deadmall, while others may be familiar with this Western MA native through the selections of music he's released under his solo-discography. Regardless of the instant thought that his name produces in your head there's one thing for certain, and it's that Gabe Gill is one of Western Massachusetts' most prominent acts. Returning today with the official music video for "Fake Diamonds", I'm filled with this feeling of excitement when writing about Gabe's music. The way he pieces his tracks together is so uniquely his, as he often likes to experiment with new sounds to see what works well for him and what doesn't. This type of bravery with respect to his art is amazing, which to be honest is something that has routinely attracted me his way whenever he drops new music. By continually seeking the development of his craft, and doing so in a manner that still remains true to who he is at his artistic core, Gabe Gill has constructed a beautiful catalog of music. "Fake Diamonds" really helps to reinforce this statement, as it sounds unlike any of his previous records, but still remains aligned with the rest of his discography in the same sentence. Kendall Pestana, who was tasked with bringing this video into existence, helped to make this phenomenal track that much more impactful. She certainly deserves her praise, as the output has resulted in one of my favorite Gabe Gill visuals to date. When he's not busy teaching at Somerville High School during the day, he dedicates his time to being the announcer for the Boys Varsity Soccer team. Someone who's literally embedded into the very fabric of what compromises this city, Jerome B personifies community engagement. Despite his insanely busy schedule though, Jerome still manages to find the time to work on his craft, which is the reasoning as to why he is being featured on Mass Music Radio's blog today. Fresh off of the release of his recent Coming Soon EP, this Somerville rapper shows our readers "how much he can fit into a day's worth". Teaming up with Briefcvse, who is a rapper and producer from the Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain, Jerome B entrusted one of my personal favorites with the direction of the sound on this project. As I've noted in prior articles, Briefcvse is another example of a hard worker, as he's released a plethora of projects over the course of the last year, with low quality demo's resting as one of my favorites to exit Massachusetts in recent memory.
Though Coming Soon rests just short of eight minutes in length, there is a wide range of substance contained within this short time frame. Utilizing Spanglish raps atop Briefcvse's mystical production capabilities, Jerome B's first addition to his discography this year proves to be a distinctive one. He somehow encapsulates the last several years of his life experience into well-executed verses, the whole time making use of a wide variety of flows. Jerome truly nestles into the pocket of each passing instrumental, and though his raps are the main reason that I became familiar with his music initially, his vocal work on this release showcases just how multi-faceted he is as an artist.
Ultimately serving as a means of self-expression during one of the more tumultuous times that our world has seen, Coming Soon is more than worthy of your listen. Jerome B is yet another artist from Massachusetts that the Mass Music Radio staff is incredibly excited about, and we're thrilled to see what he will continue to accomplish in time.

Stoughton native, NiceEyes, recently made his first appearance on Mass Music Radio's blog, following the release of the official music video for his single "Enemies". Today, he returns with the Brandon James shot/edited visual for "Fall". Centered around aspirations towards success for both himself and his closest loved ones, NicEyes utilizes "Fall" to detail what he seeks to achieve in life, and what he's endured up through this point in time. While nothing has been delivered to him on a silver platter, this Stoughton artist hasn't let any of this deter him for marching forward. He's in possession of a really unique artistry, and the way he's able to speak on relvenet issues in a fashion that makes it joyous to listen to is something that I'm certain will attract more fans his way as his discography grows in size. As noted in previous posts, Brandon James has been documenting the music across the state of Massachusetts for quite some time now. This sentiment only picks up strength with time, as he's back today with even more work to add to his resume. If you're looking to find new artists from Boston and the surrounding areas in Massachusetts, then be sure to visit his official YouTube Page! Watch the official music video for "Fall" below: By: Shamus Hill Springfield native, Jxylen, has amassed a discography full of domineering, well-calculated raps. The style of delivery that he utilizes is entrancing, as each new addition to his musical catalog somehow unveils new depths of his talents that were previously undiscovered. Today, Jxylen makes his way back onto the Mass Music Radio Airwaves with a brand new release titled "City of God". While many tend to hone in on the sounds exiting the eastern side of the state, Western Massachusetts should not be excluded from the conversation when analyzing the art prevalent in this region of the country. There are a wide variety of artists with extensive discographies, with Jxylen being the perfect example of just how true this statement rings. The first word that comes to mind when describing Jxylen's presence on this release is divine. I'm not speaking in hyperbole when I say that I truly believe as though this beat was passed down from the gods for Jxylen to rap over, as this young artist manages to create entirely different worlds through his music. The natural ability that he possesses with respect to the cultivation of this type of experience is something that should not be looked over in the slightest. From start to finish, this visual separates itself from the pack. Big shout out to Mvrcelius who was responsible for bringing this video into existence, and Rubberbands who laced Jxylen with this phenomenal instrumental to rap over. If you like what you're hearing, definitely check out Righteous Justen, who is another Springfield rapper that works alongside Jxylen and has a really solid catalog of music. Watch the official music video for "City of God" below: By: Shamus Hill HoyalifeNicz makes his first appearance on our blog today following the release of the official music video for his hit single "Actin' Up". Tapping in with J Nash to bring this visual to life, the final product of this collaboration is one that'll surely be turning heads towards the direction of these two Boston based creatives. From the instant HoyalifeNicz hops on this beat, he nestles into his flow with marksman-like precision, which, initially, is what thoroughly impressed me after giving this track a spin. While this particular release may be the first of which where I'm familiarizing myself with this native of Hyde Park, I highly doubt that this will be his last feature on Mass Music Radio. If you'd like to listen to HoyalifeNicz and more artists from Massachusetts and beyond, then be sure to download the official Mass Music Radio App and tune into the stream! Watch the official music video for "Actin' Up" below: By: Shamus Hill Brevin Kim are an unstoppable force within the music industry right now, as these two brothers from Massachusetts have finally unclenched their grasp around their long-awaited single "NAPLES". Mass Music Radio has included many selections from Brevin Kim's discography on our radio stream for years now, and everytime the pair releases something new, it's cause for celebration. Both Cal and Bren balance one another with a truly balanced precision, and as their catalog reaches new levels of depth, they manage to unearth an entirely new side of their musical capabilities. "NAPLES" largely circulates around self-expression within an environment that's incredibly overbearing. They've spoken on this in the past, with specifically this tweet from April emphasizing what they've endured in terms of ridicule and hatred from their hometown peers.
I, for one, am incredibly grateful that Brevin Kim have stood for something greater themselves, while at the same time have attributed a great deal of respect with regard to the reputation associated with music in Massachusetts. This pair of brothers is really special, and is more than well-deserving of whatever success comes their way. Watch the official music video for "NAPLES" below: By: Shamus Hill Roxbury's Vintage Lee recently made an appearance on our blog with her otherworldly visual for her song "Dune". Confidently assembling a discography that is uniquely hers in terms of sound and creativity, Vintage Lee returns today with yet another addition to her catalog of music. "True Story" serves as Lee's second single to be released so far in 2021, with the two of these tracks resting as polar opposites in terms of the energy prevalent within each. While "Dune" was of a much more mysterious, braggadocious temperament, "True Story" centers itself around love interests. No matter the topic of discussion though, one thing persists, and it's that Vintage Lee knows how to make top notch music. Watch the official lyric video for "True Story" below: |
