Rebel Mafia Global is a collective of Boston rappers who've routinely delivered some of the hardest hitting records to exit Massachusetts this year. Consisting of Big Super, Brandon James, Rugby Lo Sport, Kye Bills, and Messy Money Sav to name a few, the team at RMG is one that hosts some profound artists. Today, Messy Money Sav adds to this sentiment with the release of the official music video for "On A Crumb". Utilizing production at the hands of Detroit's Sav, Messy Money Sav rifles off well-thought-out raps for a period of time that lasts longer than three minutes. "On A Crumb" rests as this Boston native's second release of the year, helping to carve her artistry into its truest form in the process. Her pen holds a vast amount of might, something which her newborn discography has benefited from tremendously. Her former release "Party" which debuted in January, was very well-received, ultimately leading to a thread of YouTube comments demanding new additions to her catalog of music. For now, fans of Messy Money Sav can rejoice, as the day that they've been waiting for has come at last. Watch the official music video for "On A Crumb" below:

Van Buren Records, the inseparable, high-energy posse of creatives originally hailing from Brockton, Massachusetts, have had the entirety of 2021 on lock. Since debuting their first full-roster project – Bad For Press – in April, VB has literally gone worldwide, growing their base of fans exponentially in the process. Today, they make their way onto the airwaves of Mass Music Radio with the official music video for "LIL HAITI". Equipped with shots of some of the City of Champion's Haitian-owned businesses, this release isn't the first time in which the term "Little Haiti" was used to describe the city of Brockton. During the city's 2019 mayoral election, Gary Keith, a councilor-at-large candidate, described in private messages how Brockton would turn into "little Haiti" if Jean Bradley Derenoncourt were to be elected as mayor. Jean, who came to Brockton as a refugee following Haiti's 2010 earthquake, personifies the growing force that the Haitian American community possesses in the city of Brockton. With nearly 30% of the city's residents being born outside of the United States, Haitians contribute to the overall sense of community that's prevalent in Brockton in an increasingly powerful way. Van Buren Records' "LIL HAITI" only helps to reinforce the growing change in diversity that exists in one of Massachusetts' core cities. From the second that this well-executed Ricky Felix and Roho instrumental starts, a day in the life begins. MEECH, who's at the helm of this release, leads in "LIL HAITI" with both a hook and verse that become centralized around grinding toward success. From there, Luke Bar$, Lord Felix, and Jiles pick up the pace with three beautifully-carved verses, showcasing their seemingly flawless capabilities with respect to rapping along the way. Each and every trip to the studio, these Brockton artists manage to push to new heights, something which has quickly led to them taking over the top spot with respect to Massachusetts music this year. While I'm aware of the wide-array of artists from this state, no one has been operating to the same degree as the roster of creatives behind Van Buren Records. This video was brought to life by Simon Morrison, Daymian Mejia, Nicolas Andrew, Tay Thai, and Jimmy Del Ponte, with the final product resting as the best to exit the Bay State this year. Not only does this release shine a light on who these Brockton creatives are at their core, it manages to put the city itself on a pedestal in the same breath. There's a vast amount of pride that residents of Brockton carry with them everywhere that they go, and this visual displays this in its truest form. Coming at you is T3_, a mysterious beatmaker from the city of Boston who lets his music do the talking. Today, he makes his first appearance across the airwaves of Mass Music Radio following the release of his laterLP. Managing to create entirely new galaxies with his sound, T3_ is one of the biggest hidden gems that the state of Massachusetts has to offer. It's not often that I claim there aren't any skips on a project that spans 21 tracks, but this is exactly the case here. Each component of T3_'s laterLP builds atop the last, creating an entrancing cycle that eases one's mind. Though the Lo-Fi genre of production is arguably the most popular at this current moment in time, there aren't many who are consistently pushing boundaries and seeking development. T3_ is one of the few, and I for one am thrilled to be able to say that he's from Boston. Rappers, tap in with T3_!!! Stream + Purchase laterLP below:

Boston's Wave Capone debuts his emotionally-driven Capone (Deluxe) – an album that largely centers itself around the rapper's experiences with respect to street life, the loss of loved ones, and the struggle to survive when the odds are stacked against you. Helping to cement this project's arrival, Wave also unleashed the official music video for "Could've Been Me", providing a strong force of energy around the recent additions to his catalog of music. Gifting fans with an additional five new tracks on this updated version of his Capone album, Wave Capone is quick to follow up on the original project's March release. The date he selected is no coincidence however, as Wave decided to drop in commemoration of the two year anniversary of the passing of Boston Model/DJ Corey "Flee" Thompson. A truly powerful loss to the city of Boston, Corey was an individual who inspired many hear to seek their fullest potential, all the while acting as an incredible friend and person throughout the process. Wave Capone has been doing a great job with respect to carrying his legacy, and as he continues to work in the studio, his discography really benefits greatly. His visual for "New Strand of the Opps" was very well received earlier this year, and now that this Boston artist is continuing to flood the street with new offerings, he's quickly becoming a popular name amongst fans of local music. What better way to bring the month of June to an end than with some new tunes from Garrett Merk. Coming at you with a wondrous Hip-Hop offering, "Slipknot" rests as this Brockton native's first release of 2021. Recruiting the production talents of Jon Glass, Thomas Forbes, and Roy Fontaine to bring this song into existence, Garrett was gifted a phenomenal instrumental to float atop. His style of rap is of a very soothing nature, helping to put an emphasis on his anecdotes that revolve around childhood, family, and personal growth. Consistently filling his catalog up with raps about popping wheelies on a bike, playing sports, and heading to the corner store to buy some Big Bursts, a listen through "Slipknot" will bring you back to the carefree days that surrounded us during our youth. What I love the most about Garrett Merk is the effortlessness that comes paired with his music. Nothing feels forced in even the slightest bit, with bars "leaking out of [his] head like a faucet". The nearly three minute runtime of "Slipknot" encapsulates this very sentiment elegantly.

Blasting his way onto Massachusetts' music scene is OmarBack – a Hooterville affiliate who associates with prominent Bay State MC's BoriRock and Dun Dealy. Today, the promising young rapper makes his way onto the pages of Mass Music Radio following the release of the official music video for "GTR" featuring OGM Ricky. Originally releasing in February, "GTR" has been getting tons of rotation throughout the streets of Boston since its drop. Sadly it took up until now for me to get hip, but better late than never as they say! OmarBack's presence here is unmatched, as he floats atop the beat with the precision of a music industry veteran. His sound is well-established, and is something that I am certain will carry him far, especially given the fact that he's tapped into it so early on. I am very excited to see what he will accomplish with time. Watch the official music video for "GTR" below:

By: Shamus Hill The combination of Chavo and Pi'erre Bourne is one that has resulted in a lengthy list of incredible music. The Sosshouse teammates consistently chalk up wonderful additions to their catalogs of music, with Chavo paving the way for many blossoming artists from the city of Boston. Today, he makes his way onto our platform with the official music video for his hit single "Cheap". Coming off of his collaborative project titled Chavo's World alongside Pi'erre Bourne, "Cheap" is one of Chavo's most popular tracks to date according to his Spotify page. This is one of those songs that entrenches itself in the listener's mind, creating an almost addictive effect that results in Chavo's audience returning for more. He possesses the ability to float atop the instrumental with seeming ease, managing to carve out his raps in a very meticulous fashion. Whether he's providing anecdotes about street life, sex, or making money, Chavo's braggadocious aurora is something that bleeds through each of his forthcoming releases. If you're in need of some motivation to get up and get to some money, then give this release a spin for sure. Watch the official music video for "Cheap" at the link below:

Glvsshouse is no stranger to Mass Music Radio, as he's an artist whose music has consistently made its way onto our radar. Not only has he made appearances across our blog and radio stream, but I was even blessed with the opportunity to profile this amazing creative in our first monthly column with The Quincy Sun. We're always eager to share local artists, especially when they're based in the same exact city as Mass Music Radio. Today, he graces our platform with a brand new single titled "Feelin U". Collaborating with fellow Quincy native, Artybeats, to bring this track into existence, the final product is one that'll soundtrack your Summer with ease. Though the lyrical content of this release does revolve around heavy emotion at times, the underlying sentiment throughout is one that is reminiscent of a beautiful day at the beach. Glvsshouse is one of the most prominent vocalists in Massachusetts, and anywhere else, right now, and his skill sets have set him up for great success. His discography is one that has been pieced together diligently over the years, and though he's undergone a few rebrands and stylistic changes, one thing persists and it's that Glvsshouse is a groundbreaking creative that seldom misses the mark. Be on the lookout for what he's got coming next! By: Shamus Hill
Hailing from Cambridge is Rothstein – a depthful artist whose catalog of music has grown with immense strength since his start many years ago. Combining elements of R&B, Trap, Dance, and Electronic music to name a few genres in particular, Rothstein's multi-faceted capabilities have assisted his development as an artist with immense power. Today, he's makes his way across our pages with his second single of the year – "Overdrive". Since debuting "Venice" alongside both Gabe Gill and Brasstracks in March, Rothstein has remained relatively quiet up through this point in the year. Taking time to stack up unreleased records, this Cambridge native has an arsenal of music that's prepared for launch. In an interview with Rothstein that I conducted in 2019, he spoke on how much of a therapeutic process it is when crafting his music. He consistently incorporates his real life experiences into his releases, tapping into his greatness along the way. Something which has led to hit after hit, it's safe to say that he's been heading down the right path. Rothstein recruited some powerhouses for the production of this release. The instrumental was crafted by the Manhattan duo of Ivan Jackson and Conor Rayne who make up Brasstracks, and the Norwegian producer Lido, who are all true titans within music right now. Both Brasstracks and Lido are in possession of nearly a million monthly listeners on Spotify alone at this current point in time, something which speaks to the excellence of their respective discographies. As they're working relationship with Rothstein continues to develop, I'm really hopeful that we'll be able to listen to some more collaborations in the future.

We loved DJ Caitlin so much, we had to have her pull up to Mass Music Radio again to bless us with another set... and SHEESH, she did not disappoint! We are a big fan of her live toneplays so you already know she came through with more surprises tucked up under her sleeve. Nonetheless, her live mashups and scratching are still crisp and sharp just in time for the Beancup Battle, a DJ battle consisting of Boston DJs of which Caitlin is part of. Keep an eye on her social media for more details! Watch her full Mass Music Radio DJ Set below: |
