By: Shamus Hill Stay Saved Records is a collective of rappers from Boston who are working together to create some truly groundbreaking records. "Blunt Cruise", which features the group's Brew Lewis, Boogie Da God, and Aphro Sensei, provides an amazing glimpse with respect to the capabilities of these three artists. Though Brew Lewis, Boogie Da God, and Aphro Sensei are no strangers to releasing music of their own, this record commemorates the beginning of the next chapter of their artistic endeavors. Working collaboratively under Stay Saved Records, it's as though a new battery has been placed within each of them, resulting in some heavy-hitting bars that leave the listener in awe. Shoutout to Seuss for lacing them with truly exceptional production here. If this is your first time hearing of these respective artists, then please heed my advice, and check out their music as you won't be disappointed. I certainly expect "Blunt Cruise" to foreshadow a list of strengthened releases as time continues, so be sure to show these Boston natives some love. By: Shamus Hill Soap.wav recently instilled new life into the MBTA following the debut of the official music video for "Orange Line Freestyle". Recruiting some of Massachusetts' best hitmakers of this current moment, this release is one that will assuredly make fans of the local music scene rejoice. Riding off of the energy that surrounded his most recent album Atlantis, Cambridge's soap.wav follows up with yet another wondrous addition to his discography. Each artist on this record tapped into their individualistic styles with precision, making "Orange Line Freestyle" the perfect snapshot with respect to what's currently happening with respect to music in Massachusetts. Soap.wav, Connis, Lord Felix, BoriRock, and Bby.Bird are no strangers to Mass Music Radio, as each has received placements on both our radio stream and our blog. If you're unsure of who's making moves in the Bay State right now, then look no further, as these individuals are well on their way toward establishing our area has a hub for creativity. Watch the official music video for "Orange Line Freestyle" below: By: Shamus Hill Following up on the release of his most recent project is MyCompiledThoughts - an artist from Boston who concocts magnificent music about the intricacies of life. Whether the primary focus be romance, life, heartbreak, or joy, MyCompiledThoughts' discography is one that spans all emotive tones. Today, he appears on Mass Music Radio's blog with the official music video for "Twisted Weekend" alongside Phill Mycup. Serving as the second music video to be delivered from his recent Letters To You project, "Twisted Weekend" is a well-executed track that begs for summertime. This offering centers itself around a group of friends who have themselves a "Twisted Weekend" - on a quest toward enjoyment whilst grappling with the turmoils that come paired with life. The back-and-forth relationship between MyCompiledThoughts and Phill Mycup on this release is one that is very refreshing, as both of these Massachusetts-based creatives put their best foot forward on this song. Additionally, both Arthur Maressa and Carl Owen Cantave did their thing with regard to the production of this release. Daymian Mejia, who has worked alongside some of MA's best, was tasked with shooting, editing, and co-directing this visual alongside Cesar Lazare. In my personal opinion, this visual ultimately ended up being one of MyCompiledThoughts' most notable to-date, so this release is one that is more than worthy of your undivided attention. Today, Big Sosa makes her first appearance on Mass Music Radio's Airwaves following the release of the official music video for her debut single "No Features". Kicking off her discography with this offering's release, Big Sosa is already in possession of a unique artistry. Lining "No Features" with a constantly flowing arrangement of quality raps, there's no questioning Big Sosa's ability when it comes to making music. This video was directed by Jenny Thach, who's crafted amazing visuals for artists from across the state of Massachusetts for some time now. Her work is something that should certainly not be overlooked, as this release is one that came out exceptionally well. Though this is only the starting point, I'm eager to hear what she accomplishes with time, as she's poised to make an impact within Massachusetts' ever blossoming music scene. J Wavy is a promising young artist from Chelsea, Massachusetts who has consistently dropped off a continuous stream of well-developed music. Today, he graces the pages of Mass Music Radio's blog with the official music video for his recent single "Interlude". First making a name for himself with offerings such as "New Me", "Slide Thru", and "Bag Talk", J Wavy's unique artistry is something that has been prevalent since the foundations of his discography were established. "New Me", which received a visual treatment at the hands of Massachusetts videographer Tanj, served as the first piece of work by J Wavy that I had heard, crafting a melodic hit with seeming ease. Fast forward to now, J Wavy has gone on to attract a wide array of supporters, all of which are constantly hungry for new music from the Chelsea native. "Interlude" is a three minute offering that circulates around relationship turmoils. J Wavy is really getting to a point within his musical development where his lyrical capabilities are on par with his sonics, and as he continues to work on his craft, it's as though he unlocks all-new levels of accomplishment. Interjecting theatrical elements into this track's aurora is Fitztherunaway, who was tasked with directing this song's music video. The best visuals are the ones which develop an entirely new layer of meaning surrounding the music, and this is something that Fitztherunaway did with expert precision. Returning to your rotation today is Neemz - a Palestinian, multi-faceted artist who's based in Boston, and just dropped off her second single of 2021 -- "Awake". As mentioned in my article on "Plan A", Neemz is one of the most exceptional creatives in Boston at the moment. Whether she's building up her repertoire within the Fashion Industry as both a model and photographer, or working late into the evening at the studio perfecting her sonics, Neemz is always en route toward self-development, and achieving her greatest purpose in life. "Awake" is an incredibly bubbly offering that helps the listener elude darkness, and move closer toward an existence that's full of light. While many of us experience sadness, anguish, and hopelessness throughout our days, Neemz is here to remind us that these feelings are only temporary, and never permanent. We all possess the ability to heal from what we've been through, and throughout this offering's three minute runtime, Neemz reinforces this sentiment continuously. In addition to the lyrical elements of this release, the sonics are of a ridiculously high-caliber as well. Her first three discographical additions showed signs of Neemz's promising capabilities with respect to singing, and on "Awake" she allows this strengthened aspect of her artistry to take the spotlight. Additionally, Bnyx provides some exceptional production on this release, lacing Neemz with a vibrant instrumental that's lined with 80s pop synths. Coming together to create a snowball effect of positivity, Neemz is truly setting herself up for success.

Western Massachusetts' Gabe Gill challenges the preconceived notions about his music on his newest offering "Lucky Charms". Rather than sticking to the usual alternative pop sound, this release is one where Gabe shines a light towards his ability to rap. Equipped with two-minutes of straight lyrical prowess, this was a side of Gabe that I did not anticipate hearing at first. Despite this, I am thrilled that he's not shying away from experimenting with his craft. He's an incredibly special creative from MA whose discography has truly grown in strength over the years. "Lucky Charms" certainly nestles its way up the ranks within his catalog, and I'm hopeful that Gabe Gill continues to seek new musical influences as he develops. The visual for this track is one that was brought to life by both Noah Dirks and the team over at Not Here Records. Gabe's visuals have been on point as of late, and there's no telling what's going to come next as 2021 continues to progress. Watch the official music video for "Lucky Charms" below: By: Shamus Hill
Massachusetts' Pareto makes his first appearance across the airwaves of Mass Music Radio today following the release of "Fight The Feeling". Resting as the third single to be released off of his upcoming project titled Generation of Desolation, this offering lays the groundwork for a body of work that will ultimately revolve around persistence through life's turmoils. "Fight The Feeling" is extremely reminiscent of a journal entry, in a sense that Pareto utilizes the song's three minutes of length to reflect on the trajectory of his life. Enduring a great deal of mental anguish from the expectations placed upon him, the pressure that Pareto feels on a day-to-day basis to make the right decisions about his life is something that is beginning to take its toll. As this sentiment begins to grow to a point where it feels insurmountable, Pareto stresses the importance of reaching out for help. None of us are perfect, and all of us can truly benefit from the help from our loved ones, and before it's too late - Pareto wants his audience to understand this. Taking influences from Hip-Hop, Lo-Fi, and Alternative Pop, the music that Pareto crafts sounds incredible while still incorporating depthful themes. The message that he wants to relay to his listeners is one that of a vast level of importance, and I'm thrilled to see that Pareto is using his artistry to inspire a positive change in the lives of others. By: Shamus Hill Boston's Kye Bills makes his first appearance across Mass Music Radio's blog today following the release of the official music video for "Close By Me". Directed by Brandon James of FNS Films and Bryan Angel of CWTFB Radio, this visual adds additional layers of depth to this fiery release. Though the length of "Close By Me" rests just short of 80 seconds in total, there certainly isn't a lack of amazing sonics here, as this Boston rapper ensures that the world hears what he's capable of accomplishing throughout its duration. Kye Bills' discography has routinely received new additions, only continuing to grow in strength as time presses forward. His presence over the underlying instrumental is one that may be characterized as being impressively powerful, never once using even a singular syllable as filler. The potency of his artistry is something that will likely draw the attention of the masses toward his direction, and with this in mind, the city of Boston and its surrounding communities definitely should be showing support to this bubbling, young artist. Watch the official music video for "Close By Me" below: By: Shamus Hill Woburn's poolfire relinquishes his first single of 2021 - an airy, hazy offering that's titled "Radio Man". For any of you out there who have followed my writing over the last several years, you'll remember this cheerful artist, who formerly utilized the moniker YOUNGFACE. While he may be going by a different name these days, one thing's for certain, and it's that the music this Massachusetts native crafts is extremely well-put-together. His latest release is one that encompasses a wide variety of stylistic influences. Floating over sun-soaked acoustic guitar riffs that gradually pick up emphasis throughout the song's four minute run-time, poolfire tells the tale of a "radio man" whose life isn't as glamorous as the public would think. Packing a punch in terms of both depth and sonics, "Radio Man" rests as one of my favorite components of poolfire's new discography. Though this may be the starting point for poolfire with respect to the release of new music in 2021, he's an extremely promising artist and individual who will surely continue to deliver as time moves on. |
